At our headquarters in Stützengrün, a new kind of team has taken up residence — one that’s small in size but mighty in impact. Since spring last year, a humming colony of bees has been quietly settling into their custom-built hive, nestled right on the MÜHLE company grounds.
"With this project, we are committed to sustainable nature and environmental protection and are making an important contribution to combating species extinction and safeguarding biodiversity by establishing the bee colony," says CEO Andreas Müller.
Spearheaded in collaboration with Jens Ebert AG and their 'Die Firmenbiene' (the company bee) concept, the project brings the wonders of beekeeping directly into our working environment. Professional beekeepers from the initiative care for the colony and handle the production of what we hope will become a sweet symbol of our eco-conscious efforts — our very own MÜHLE honey.
Beyond their iconic buzz, these new residents are crucial contributors to local ecosystems. Bees pollinate millions of flowers each day, playing a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and supporting food systems — a third of what we eat, in fact, relies on their pollination. Offering them a healthy habitat is just one way we can give back to nature.
The first harvest from our hive arrived at the end of 2024, and with it, a sense of pride and curiosity: what flavour profile would our MÜHLE honey reveal?
‘’The honey itself has become a ‘summer blossom’ in terms of the mixture. In terms of flavour, however, it also has nuances of linden tree blossom and rapeseed blossom.’’ says Manuela Hennig (Marketing / Corporate Communications).
Beyond its culinary appeal, honey is a multitasker in natural wellness — soothing sore throats, helping heal wounds, and even offering benefits in skincare. A dab of pure honey works wonders on dry lips, while beeswax has long been prized for its protective and nourishing properties in creams and balms.
It’s why you’ll also find beeswax in a few of our SHAVECARE and BEARDCARE products. Though our formulations are generally vegan, we make a considered exception here, embracing the unique benefits this natural wax brings to the skin and beard.
To mark the start of our beekeeping journey, our team got hands-on during a company day — opening honeycombs, learning the ins and outs of honey extraction, and sharing stories over jars of golden goodness. It was a reminder of how much we can achieve when we care for nature — and for each other.
