"This is a serious razor. The material quality and the fit and finish are beyond meaningful improvement. It's weighty, and the open comb design is notoriously efficient. It's not for beginners. For experienced wet shavers who know what they're doing, however, this is an endgame razor. No other safety razor shaves closer. Unsurprisingly it pairs perfectly with Muhle blades, which ensures smoothness as well as cutting power. This has been my go-to razor for a few months, and now, nothing less will do. A great razor, but you may prefer chrome version

"This is an update to my first review of this razor, over one year on. In the end, I prefer the standard, zamak chrome version. It may not be as bomb-proof as the stainless steel, but it glides more smoothly and has slightly more blade exposure and feedback, both on the skin and audibly. I get a smoother, closer shave as result. I also prefer the lighter weight and greater manoeuvrability of the smaller original design. This holds true for me, even when using the short SS handle of the R89SS instead of the Grande SS handle on this R41, or the very slightly lighter shorter handle of the standard R41. None of this is really anything to worry about shaving with the grain, but if you also have to shave against the grain every day to get a really smooth result (I do, having old-man bristles), then that''s when you'll really notice the difference. In short, if you like a light sports-car handling razor, go for the original. If you always shave against as well as with the grain, ditto. If you want the weight and bombproof qualities of stainless steel, then go for this GS model, especially if you also have large hands. They're both great razors. But the standard chrome R41 is my daily razor again. Of course, your mileage may differ."

"What a great razor. Very close shave that feels so good. I've used a shavette in the past to take away my weekly growth but find the R41 GS to be equal in my opinion to that clean cut feel you get after removing so much growth. The quality of the razor itself is supreme and a great feel to the weight that you get from the stainless steel. I have somewhat sensitive skin on my neck and I have no problem with this razor while using a pre shave cream. All I can say is pamper and treat yourself, I'm sure you won't be disappointed."

Beautifully made for a superb close shave

"Beautifully engineered stainless steel version of the classic R41, a unique open comb design that delivers a beautifully close shave. Being larger and heavier than the standard version it is a little more challenging to manipulate and master the appropriate technique. But once you’ve got the hang of it nothing else will do. A superb close shave. Exceptionally well made of stainless steel that is so highly polished some people think it’s chromed! Note that the handle is too thick to fit the leather travel pouch for razor and brush."
