Wonderful razor

"Progressed to open comb about a year ago after getting used to DE shaving with this razor's closed comb brother (R89). Both superb, but there is a really special joy about the open comb if you pay attention and learn from how it behaves. Very nicely balanced which makes the adjustments on with/against grain very well, and it's beautifully made and aesthetically pleasing. But it's the extent and position of the blade edge presented by this open comb that is the best thing about it in my view. If I had to use only one razor for the rest of days, this is it. Wish I'd tried it 35 years ago! Superb."

Closest shave ever

"This is a nicely made razor. The parts fit together precisely and the razor fits my hand really well. Because the razor is open-backed, more of the blade is exposed. This means that you get a closer shave for less effort. The weight of the razor and a light touch is all that you need. I do a first pass with the grain to get a close shave and then a second pass against the grain for a completely smooth result. The design of the head makes it easy to shave under my nose. I use the razor daily and have no problems with nicks or a rash. This is probably the only razor you will ever need."

An all-time close shave classic

"This is an absolutely fantastic razor with a very clever open comb design. It’s often described as a hybrid open comb, but that misses the point about its ingenious design, because it’s really a suspended open comb that lets more of the shaving cream/soap through to lubricate the blade and of course provides even less of a barrier to the hair. What this means is that if you keep your skin taut, get the angle right and shave without pressure you can get a very smooth shave despite the R41’s reputation for an aggressive shave. I use it as my daily driver and love it. You get an incredibly smooth shave. Just don’t dive in before you have some experience with safety razors and keep focused. That said, the R41 provides lots of feedback and will help you improve your technique."
